Cagayan de Oro : MUSEUM OF THREE CULTURES

Capitol University Museum of Three Cultures
The Capitol University Museum of Three Cultures, an attraction both of history and cultural value, is packed with curious visitors. It features Mindanao's three cultures of Maranao of Marawi, Iligan of Cagayan de Oro and the Indigenous Peoples of Northern Mindanao.
The museum is divided in three divisions. First one to welcome the guests is the "Kasaysayan" (History) which is a collection of old photographs of Cagayan de Misamis and Northern Mindanao. There are huge bottles used as perfume containers during the Hispanic era as well as Chinese porcelain and pottery excavated from Butuan City's archeological sites.
The second division is the Posaka Maranao which showcases the collection of Madame Laureana San Pedro Rosales’ collection of antique Maranao brasswares, jewelry, musical instruments, textiles, wooden crafts mainly from Tugaya, Lake Lanao. Believed to be the most extensive collection of Maranao antique materials, Rosales' collection includes gold, silver and ivory Maranao heirlooms dating as far back as China's Sung Dynasty.
The third part is called Rawari, a Lumad name of the river that traverses from Matigsalug to Manobo territories of Southern Bukidnon. Yes, another museum last weekend. This museum was opened four years ago. Much that I want to take pictures of the artifacts inside, we were not allowed. But, all I can say is that " Better come and see!" Hehe.. And you will know why taking pictures is prohibited. I got this picture below from the web (the only picture from the web). Ana ka strict! .

Cagayan de Oro : MUSEO DE ORO

Located within the Xavier University(formerly Ateneode Cagayan) Campus, it has a collection of pre-historic artifacts and bones dug from a Huluga cave a few kilometers away from the city center.
It is also a folkloric museum which feature Tribal and Muslim traditions and customs. There are also old photos of Cagayan de Oro and the Philippine-American war. For tour schedules, call Tel. I want to go to museums. Unfortunately, the city I came from don't have one. So, when I learned that CDO has several here, I grabbed the chance to go to one of the famous museums of the city. It's inside the campus of Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan.. The building is just few steps from the university's entrance gate. Museo de Oro is one of the must-spots in CDO as well.

The museum has 3 exhibits. EXHIBIT 1 is all about "Misamis at the time of Jose Rizal".

Okay, of all the antiques I saw, two things made me say "hala, haha!".. Number 1 is this below... an old -time FLAT IRON. Charcoal is placed on top , without cover.

EXHIBIT 2. The old-time musical nstruments, weapons, and farming tools and equipments. Though some I believe are still used today.

This is my Number 2 "hala, haha"... An old german piano.... No note stand, instead two candelabras/candle holders, one of each front side. .. Seeing one like this made me happeee.. :)

EXHIBIT 3. The old-time costumes of natives of Misamis and Bukidnon.

Note: Entrance fee is P20 only. Sulit na sulit. A gentleman history professor was kind enough to accompany us to tour around the three exhibits. Thank you allowing us to take pictures sir.

In Cagayan de Oro, Barangay Bulua is known as the “ clay country”. One of its treasures is the STONEWARE POTTERY located in Zone 8.

COMPANY PROFILE

The predecessor of THE STONEWARE POTTERY, INC. was founded in 1994 by Clemens Wirth and Manolo Glema as Glema Stoneware Ceramic Craft Ltd. Co.. In the year 2002, Manolo decided to set up his own ceramic business and left the company. Now this German-Filipino joint venture is a corporation. Like its German mother company TÖPFEREI WIRTH, THE STONEWARE POTTERY, INC. also specializes in high quality stoneware ceramic fired at 1220 C.
Our main product lines are kitchenware, tableware and ornamental ceramics. The raw materials -- clay and glaze -- are imported from Germany.
Because our main target is to serve the needs of the private household and restaurants, we can assure you that the glaze we use is free of lead or other poisonous ingredients. All our items are suited to the standard of the modern household and restaurant: They are ovenproof, microwaveproof, and dishwasherproof as well.
As the production process is purely handmade -- by free forming on the potter's wheel and applying the glaze by dipping and firing in an LPG-fired kiln -- please take note that the products can vary slightly in size, shape and color. This is the traditional way of making ceramics which gives our products the warm touch of the heart. Each piece has its own characteristics.

Cagayan de Oro : MACAHAMBUS CAVE

Next to my list is the famous and historical cave in Cagayan de Oro, the MACAHAMBUS CAVE!

Located in Lumbia, a few kilometers south of the airport, it is the site of the historic battle between Kagayanon and American soldiers during the Philippine-American War (Philippine Insurrection) in 1900. Macahambus Cave – Total Cave Length – 57.0 M

This is the most popular and most frequently visited cave in Cagayan de Oro City.

Macahambus Cave is a “thru” cave, which means it can be entered at one end and exited at the other.

It has three chambers, the hide-out and exit of Kagayanon soldiers and their families in the Battle of Macahambus Hill which marked the first victory of the Filipinos against the Americans in the entire Phil-American War in this nation in 1900.

The entrance of the cave. Inside the cave is so dark and a bit creepy so better bring flashlights. If you want to take pictures inside, make sure your camera’s flash works.

Inside are hard rock cave walls. You see small stalactites also.

It is also the residence of these tiny bats. That time, having their beauty rest. I was just afraid to take a closer pic, I might awaken them.

The exit. There is a terrace made of steel, a perfect place to behold a beautiful view of the Cagayan de Oro River. In there you can take a rest, relax, sleep, breathe, meditate, chika-chika with friends, take pictures, count the stones of the river, count the trees, count the leaves, etcetera,etcetera.
